The in-game appearance of Shards.

Shards are the in-game currency for Dinogen Online. Barring starter equipment, all items need to be purchased with shards before they can be equipped for use. Many of these items cannot be bought with shards until a certain amount of XP is obtained; this will unlock the item or weapon for purchase. All purchases with shards are only ever done once; once you've bought the item, you will never need to purchase it again (though you may need to unlock it again if you reset your XP).

Obtaining Shards[]

Shards are rather plentiful during the start of the game, due to the ease of obtaining them and the low cost for upgrades and purchases. Your character starts of at rank 1 with 5 shards and will get 1 additional shard for every rank up they obtain, all the way up to 100. They will also obtain 1 shard every time they unlock (NOT PURCHASE) a new weapon or piece of equipment, though they will not get any for unlocking attachments. In the late game, large amounts of XP are needed to rank up or to unlock a new weapon, which slows down the incoming number of shards. Furthermore, late-game weapons and upgrades can get pretty pricy very fast, so it is recommended to hold onto extra shards for the unlocks that you want.

Once a character has reached rank 100, they have the option of 'prestiging' at the cost of 10 shards. This resets all EXP to 0, but more importantly resets your rank back down to 1. At this stage you receive a shard every time you rank up until Rank 10, after which you receive one only every 5 Ranks (Rank 15, 20, 25, and so on). This is true for all levels of prestige. You do, however, still earn shards for every weapon you unlock (and as you've reset your EXP, you will be re-unlocking a lot of weapons).
