Open World is a beta game mode in Dinogen Online. It can be accessed by clicking the "Open World Beta" button in the multiplayer tab.
Overview[]
The Open World mode is a new experimental game mode. Every time an Open World map is generated, the game starts at noon on Day 0, and time passes normally, with more enemies and dinosaurs appearing at night time (6 pm - 6 am). Each Open World map is a randomly generated 40x40 map with random community-submitted structures on it. The larger a structure is, the less likely it is to appear. When downed by enemies, a player has 30 seconds to be revived by another player before they drop their loot and respawn at the spawn point (a rocky area guarded by sentry guns).
Players will always spawn with the same loadout: An M9, a Combat Knife, an Ammo Box and a Smoke Grenade.
Regularly, supply helicopters will enter the map and drop crates at a random location. These can be Ammo Airdrops, Weapon Airdrops, or other airdrops. Good loot for survival can be found from these airdrops. A shopkeeper may also appear with a self-destructing Tactical Crate, which you can buy goods from. Seaknight helicopters will also drop Militia paratroopers (led by a Militia Commander), and dinosaur eggs will appear, spawning Savage Dinosaurs. Most dinosaurs come in packs, and each pack has an Alpha dinosaur (has higher health and damage). Sometimes, rival dinosaur packs may attack each other, and Militia and dinosaurs will always fight. T-Rex dinosaurs may also spawn.
Stealth is important. All enemies have bIgnoreOutOfSight
on, meaning they cannot see you behind walls. However, they will investigate noises and gunfire, so you can evade them by hiding in a building and remaining completely still. Enemies have the upper hand in wide open areas, as their maximum ranges are very high.
Randomly generated structures may also have loot in them, and spawn multiple in a small area, often overlapping structures. These structures can be used as safe zones or good loot spots.
Triggers in open world don't work very well yet, and there are a lot of improvements that have to be made. But it's a promising venture into... well, the open world.
Open World Survival Guide[]
When you first join the lobby, it's generally a good idea to run /voteskip
if the day count is very high, that means there will be hordes of enemies that got here before you and locked down the entire region. That way you can start fresh and prep for enemy contact.
Most structures have loot that can be picked up and used. It is advised to run to a large structure and open a crate. Try to avoid opening crates if you already have all the loot you need, as dropped weapons can despawn. Good weapons to have are Hollow Point LMGs, launchers and anti-materiel rifles. If you need ammo, get it during the day time when it's safe. Certain structures also spawn vehicles, take these to maximize your chances of survival.
During night time, it is dark and more dinosaur eggs spawn. During this time, your best bet is to move to a structure (the Growler compound and the garage both work very well), and stay there for the night. If you wanna commit to one of these safe zones, it's a good idea to secure it and put some time into fortifying it with armed vehicles, automated turrets and claymores/betty mines. Usually, if they can't see you, enemies will usually walk past you, but you must be quiet. If there's a dinosaur vs militia battle raging outside, it's probably a good idea to stay inside. If they do, the explosives, sentry guns and the heavy machine gun on a Growler may be enough to keep them at bay.
Stealth is very important. If you need to maneuver through hostile territory to reach a safe zone or supply crate, be quiet. Enemies are attracted to the sounds of unsuppressed gunfire, sprinting, and explosions. In most cases, enemies that are actively attacking each other will not pay attention to you but you never know. Suppressed weapons will help you kill silently.
You will end up dying eventually. When that happens, you will be in a downed state for 30 seconds. As long as you are revived by another player before the timer is up, you will keep your equipment and money. If the timer runs out, you will die and respawn, and your weapons and money will drop at your death point.
