Hunter is a human class in Dinogen Online. It is a sniping-oriented class, and is best suited for long-range combat.
Hunters get exclusive access to powerful Sniper Rifles for their Primary, while their Secondary also includes the Tactical Crossbow and Compound Bow. These weapons deal bonus damage to Dinosaurs.
The Hunter's equipment includes the Jammer and Motion Sensor, the former being able to prevent enemies from locking-on through walls using Launchers like the SMAW and MATADOR, and the BGM-71.
Loadout Overview[]
The Hunter's primary aim is to hunt the most dangerous game. To this end, it is equipped with a number of Hunting and Sniper Rifles, all of which come with an 8x scope as standard (for some context, DMRs unlock the 8x scope at 20,000 weapon XP*). This, alongside a high effective range, and a high enough pierce to deal bonus damage to dinos (double or more!) gives them unparalleled long-range capabilities. However, all of these weapons are bolt-action only, so come with a poor fire rate. Do note that some of these rifles reload one bullet at a time (and thus can fire off that one last bullet much faster), while others replace a conventional box magazine. The hunter performs best when he is in control.
By default, the Hunter has access to pistols and machine pistols for their secondary, which act as a decent fall back weapon whenever they find their primary out of ammo. However, the tactical crossbow and compound bow are easily obtainable, and are very effective weapons. Both of these drop their arrows as ammunition you can pick up, meaning that you can potentially use the same few arrows indefinitely (very useful when there are no ammo boxes around). With some weapon XP, these can be upgraded to poison or explosive arrows, which carry some of the highest DPS possible in the game.
Their equipment helps round off the Hunter. These are effectively 'hunting aids', which specialise against either human adversaries or dinosaurs. They are best suited for reconnaissance and sabotage, as they can reveal enemies hiding in trees and disable enemy HUDs.
Loadout Examples[]
Role: Recon Scout / Saboteur[]
This combat role leans into the 'lone wolf' abilities of the Hunter, and sends them forward in order to reveal enemy positions and mess with their electronics. This role prioritizes fast movement speed above all else; you are vulnerable while setting up your equipment, so you need to get in and out as fast as possible. You will also be closer to the enemy than your other Hunter brethren, so worry less about pinpoint accuracy and range.
Anti-Personnel:[]
- Primary: Scout Elite. Deals enough damage to take care of human targets, and lets you run around at a good rate. Think about switching the 8x scope for an ACOG, as it's a bit overkill. Go quiet with a suppressor, but grab the FMJ ammo to help punch through enemy Kevlar.
- Secondary: Whatever works best for you; A Maxim9 with FMJ is nice, but you may prefer a loud weapon more suited to those 'oh @&*!' moments.
- Melee: Don't get this close. Try a katana for the reach, but this should stay sheathed.
- Equipment: If you're going recon, go midway into the map and tuck a motion sensor in the corner, where it's unlikely to get shot by both you and the enemy. Bonus points if you can hide it where it can't be easily seen. If going the saboteur route, get as close to enemy spawn (or near their guided turrets) as you dare and stick this under a tree. This will disable a lot of nasty things and is especially helpful in survival games.
- Grenade: Go smoke. You'll be making a lot of dangerous manoeuvres, so any concealment from sight will give you a hand. Otherwise, go for the M67 Frag for its high damage when you want to blow up a turret instead of just jamming it.
Anti-Dino:[]
- Primary: Stick with the Scout Elite for its mobility, but go loud and proud this time. Those dinos will sniff you out a mile away anyhow. Grab FMJ, and replace the Suppressor for a Muzzle break or Heavy Barrel. You might still need two shots for some dinos, so grab Mag assist and stick with your team once you've planted your motion sensor. You'll find little difference between this and more powerful rifles if you've got covering fire behind you.
- Secondary: Deagle if you've got it, as it's the quintessential dino hunting tool. Otherwise make do with a 1911 until you get enough XP. The first few pistols are the hardest to level up.
- Melee: Katana still works here, but you can go bigger. You'll likely actually use this as there's a good chance you stay alive long enough to deplete all of your ammo.
- Equipment: Take the motion sensor. The Jammer's useless against dinos, they're not cybernetically enhanced. Yet.
- Grenade: Take your pick, bub. Can't really go wrong here. Except smoke. That's not very useful here.
Role: Elite Sniper[]
You are the embodiment of what a sniper should be. You focus on perfect accuracy from miles away, always looking for the perfect shot. You should be prioritizing damage and range.
Anti-Personnel:[]
- Primary: This depends on what you want to focus on. If you have a number of weaker targets to pick off, the M40A3 works well and will keep up with an unpredictable stream of enemies if you slap on a Mag Assist. If you've got more time to calculate things, the L11A3 or DSR-1 are better choices. If you're not sure, the R700 (with Mag Assist) hits the middle of the road. Grab FMJ or piercing rounds for harder targets. Don't get a laser pointer unless you can't aim, it gives you away. That being said, a laser pointer is great at deterring enemy players (though not the AI, it has no sense of self-preservation) from crossing zones.
- Secondary: Mostly, this should be used for repositioning, not combat, so whatever floats your boat. I prefer auto weapons myself, but they're not very accurate. You might find a powerful pistol more up your alley, try the Magnum .44, it's pretty accurate. Add piercing rounds for extra effectiveness against juggies that won't go down.
- Melee: Combat Knife. You need nothing else, as it should stay in your pocket. You could always go Katana and become a tree ninja, I dunno.
- Equipment: This isn't your main stick, so whatever you want. Try picking a good passive. You don't want to be placing a motion sensor or jammer in the same place you snipe though, they'll find you will searching for it. Alternatively, go for Tactical Insertion, so you spawn near helpful positions.
- Grenade: ET-MP is great at exploiting small gaps that you can't fire your sniper rifle fast enough for, though you can't really go wrong here. A personal favourite of mine is a stun grenade, giving you plenty of time to line up your shots. Or you could go flashbang, same sort of deal.
Anti-Dino:[]
- Primary: This is the same here; pick the right tool for the job. I find you tend to get swarmed more by fast dinos, so I lean towards the M40A3, or R700 for slightly heavier targets. Grab Mag Assist and some damage and range attachments. Make them come to you, you like straight lines.
- Secondary: Pick something to fight with here, if you need to run switch to your knife. The Deagle is classic, but don't discount the Crossbow, it's an excellent choice and scales well if you can afford the pricey ammo upgrades.
- Melee: Don't. If you have to, go for bigger weapons, and pray you don't miss.
- Equipment: While you don't have much use for this slot, the Dino vest is pretty useless as anything it will protect you against will likely get a second bite in before you can run away. Tactical Insertion helps spawn you in a helpful place when the dinos get you.
- Grenade: ET-MP is still an awesome pick, but molotovs are also good here.
Role: Survivalist[]
You have one goal, and that is to survive. This combat role aims to be the most self-reliant, minimizing weaknesses at the cost of not specializing in one area. You want a good balance of everything.
Anti-Personnel:[]
- Primary: Many choices, few of them bad. I lean towards the L11A3 or Hecate II for raw Damage or Scout Elite for the movement speed; note that you will run out of ammo fast if you pick this!
- Secondary: Go for the Crossbow or the Compound Bow. Both drop their arrows which mean that you should never run out of ammo for them. The Crossbow is easier to use while the Bow is more efficient with its ammunition and is thus my recommendation; you never know when you won't be able to double back and grab those loose arrows.
- Melee: Bowie Knife or Sledgehammer, pick depending on your playstyle. You should be able to lean on your secondary so this shouldn't see too much use.
- Equipment: Kevlar Vest or Jammer. One keeps you alive by letting you eat more bullets, the other keeps you alive by disabling enemy aimbot munitions. Pick depending on the map and game mode.
- Grenade: ET-M3 for light enemies, Molotov for juggies.
Anti-Dino:[]
- Primary: L11A3 or Hecate II again. Focus on large targets with these. Mind you don't get swarmed, but you can rely on your Crossbow to bail you out most of the time.
- Secondary: Again, Crossbow or Bow. Poison Arrows are great if you have the pockets for them. I lean towards the crossbow for dealing with the riff-raff. If you go with the Bow, pick a faster firing sniper rifle.
- Melee: Go Sledgehammer and pray.
- Equipment: [TBD]
- Grenade: Molotovs, though stun grenades make for a holistic package.
